While I still have reservations about Apple's continuing quest to oversimplify all their interface elements, there are many examples of Apple's attention to detail. My current fave is the subtle gradient applied to imessages.
In iOS conversations, the most recent replies get a slightly darker background; as you travel back through the conversation, the colour lightens. To be honest, it doesn't really serve any purpose, which is probably why I like it. It's testament to how the smallest of features can bring joy to pedants like myself.
