UI overhaul

Opportunity
Our core platform had been designed as a website over five years ago and was now both out of date and not fit for a modern Saas web application. In 2024 I spearheaded the roll-out a complete UI overhaul across our EOR Platform. This was a huge undertaking that needed collaboration and organisation across Design, Product, Engineering and Marketing.
Design Vision
From the outset I championed the use of an external agency to work on the platform vision. We called it a Near Star Vision because we wanted it to be visionary, but remain realistic within a 2-3 year roadmap. I find using an external agency speeds up the process, encourages fresh thinking and avoids political pitfalls.

Some early stage mock-ups including dark UI exploration.
We established an internal task force of product and design to cement the vision and liaise with the agency. Over the course of three months we iterated towards a new product vision that would excite the entire company.

Rollout
As the design leader of the largest value-stream in G-P, I now work with my product and engineering counterparts on the implementation strategy for our Near Star vision. The process is complex. Deciding what to update, what to build anew and what to leave behind requires broad design and business sensibilities.

In parallel, I'm working with my colleagues in the Design System team to introduce a component-first workflow across the platform. This enables us to use the Design System as the Near Star engine while also establishing accessibility and responsiveness from the ground up.
